Hello everyone!
I'm still improving my newsletter output - but at least I've managed to fit this one into my "once a month" ambitions.
This month I have some exciting news! Thursdays through July and August, as a sidebar to their Ragged Glory: Summer in the 70s series, VIFF Centre is casting a (private) eye on crime thrillers, detectives, mystery and suspense, with a stellar line up of acclaimed crime novelists to introduce each movie.
The series is called Crime Scenes, and I've been asked to introduce one of the films--Chinatown (one of my all-time favourites).
Four of my fellow CWC members will also be introducing movies:
• Winona Kent (Chinatown - Roman Polanski, USA, 1974) July 28 8.30pm
• Sam Wiebe (Night Moves - Arthur Penn, USA, 1975) August 4 6.30pm
• AJ Devlin (The Yakuza - Sydney Pollack, USA/Japan, 1974) August 4 8.30pm
• Iona Whishaw (The Late Show - Robert Benton, USA, 1977) August 18 6.30pm
• Erik D’Souza (Saint Jack - Peter Bogdanovich, USA, 1979) August 25 8.30pm
The above is just a partial schedule - the full schedule can be found here:
https://viff.org/series/crime-scenes/
Tickets for each movie are very reasonably priced at $10 each.
I've made more progress on Bad Boy, the next book (#5) in my Jason Davey Mysteries. It begins at The Shard in London and involves the theft of a priceless piece of musical memorabilia. I've outlined up to Chapter Six (I'm a plotter, not a pantser!) and I've turned Chapter One and part of Chapter Two into fiction.
The fabulous photo above was taken by Brian Richmond from Blue Devil Books.
I'm still signing books at Chapters / Indigo stores in the Lower Mainland.
Rick Alexander Jr is the author of i Hit, and you can read all about him (and his novel) here:
https://www.fictionrick.ca/
Rick and I will be signing books at "Chapters Coquitlam" (2991 Lougheed Highway) on Saturday July 30, 1 pm to 3pm and "Indigo Langley" (20015 Langley By-Pass, Unit 115) on Sunday July 31, 1 pm to 3pm.
If you're in the area, I'd love it if you could come by and see us!
I'll have copies of Lost Time and Ticket to Ride for sale, and Rick will have copies of i Hit. We'll also have some free sweets to entice you.
Here we are at Indigo Robson last month! (L to R - Bob Harris - PR guy extraordinaire, me, CEM at Indigo Robson Neills Kristensen, and Rick)
(And yes, Ticket to Ride and Lost Time are still available at Indigo Robson, Metrotown and Broadway & Granville.)

For those of you familiar with When Words Collide, you'll know all about this wonderful annual festival bringing together readers and writers. This year it's once again 100% online (August 12 to 14, 2022) and Crime Writers of Canada and Sisters in Crime-Canada West have been very involved in the planning and scheduling of a number of of the mystery and crime writing panels. I'll be taking part in a panel called Dying to Travel on Friday August 12 at 1pm (MT) / 12pm (PT).
What makes authors set their crime novels in exotic locations and why are readers willing to pack up their emotions and go on that journey with them? In this panel, moderator Anthony Bidulka and panelists Marion Crook, Karen Dodd and Winona Kent will discuss what goes into making the magic that causes readers to say, “I can feel, taste and smell where this story takes place.”
The full schedule and more info is here:

(Times and schedules subject to change)
You do need to register in advance but it's very affordable! (it's free!)
That's it for now! Hope you're all well and enjoying our July weather, no matter where you live! And many, many thanks for continuing to support me and to stay in touch!
Cheers
Nona
