Oct 2019 Newsletter

Hello everyone

Here's my October writing news update!

I am now officially a full-time writer :-) My last day at UBC was Friday, September 27th and I had a lovely sendoff. I sneaked back in this month as I had to sign some retirement papers at the UBC Pension Office. I arrived just in time to share some birthday cake - it was my ex-boss's birthday - and they were all very happy to see me :-)

UBC Faculty of Medicine did a really nice Spotlight on me just after I left. You can read it here:

I had a wonderful time at Word Vancouver, Western Canada’s largest celebration of literacy and reading, which took place at the Central branch of the Vancouver Public Library in September. I took part in the Crime Writers of Canada panel, Setting in Crime Fiction, on Sunday, September 29th. You can see a picture of me, and the panel, here:

I also helped out at the Crime Writers of Canada table, chatting with other writers and helping to promote the CWC. I've now officially taken over as co-director for CWC's BC/Yukon/NWT - I'm sharing duties with Liz Bass, who looks after Vancouver Island, while I'll be looking after the Lower Mainland.

My next big event is a reading from my novel, Notes on a Missing G-String, at Noir at the Bar, along with fellow mystery writers Eileen Cook, Owen Laukkanen, Robin Spano, Dietrich Kalteis, Grant McKenzie, Derrick Carew, Don English and Aaron Chapman. The readings are here:

Shebeen Whiskey House (inside The Irish Heather, 110 Carrall Street,

Vancouver (Gastown)

Wednesday November 6, 2019 - 7pm to 9pm

If you're in Vancouver, please do drop by and say hello! I'll have copies of G-String for sale (of course).
